What is Virtualization?
I believe in giving the short answer to a question first, and then getting into more detail. So here is my short answer. Virtualization is the single most effective way by which a technology organization can deliver a better quality of service on a lower budget. That out-of-the-way, let me explain virtualization and its benefits in a little more detail.
We live in the digital age of information. Every day, more and more information is being created, stored, and transmitted through technology. Business is investing trillions of dollars into computer hardware, software, and services so that they can keep up with the ever-increasing flood of data. Our IT budgets include funds for manpower, software, PCs, mobile devices, servers, all the wiring in between, connectivity, and even the electricity to power it all. As we become increasingly dependent on technology, our IT budgets continue to increase. However, every dollar we spend on IT is a dollar less in profit. That’s where virtualization comes in to play.
